Clouds and Vegetation Modulate Shallow Groundwater Table Depth

چکیده

Abstract A 10-yr simulation of shallow groundwater table (GWT) depth over a temperate region in northwestern Europe, using physics-based integrated hydrological model at kilometer scale, exhibits strong seasonal cycle. This is also well captured terms near-surface soil moisture anomalies, terrestrial water storage and GWT anomalies from observations the region. The modeled monthly anomaly statistically significant ( p < 0.05) moderate positive/negative correlation with non-rain- rain-affected incoming solar radiation. vegetation cover produces local control on variability depth. Thus, much simulated cycle could be linked to distribution clouds vegetation. spatiotemporal clouds, partly influenced by Rhine Massif, modulates radiation precipitation Particularly, southwestern northern part Massif divided Valley dipole behavior relatively high (low) fluctuations, associated positive (negative) negative (positive) precipitation.

Experimental and Numerical Modeling of the Effect of Groundwater Table Lowering on Bearing Capacity of Shallow Square Footings

The lowering of the groundwater table causes the area above the water table to become unsaturated and capillary phenomena to appear in this zone. This means that the bearing capacity of shallow footings will be influenced by capillary stress or matric suction. In this research, the effect of groundwater table lowering on the bearing capacity of a shallow square model footing on dense sand has b...

Shallow Groundwater Use by Alfalfa

Disposal of saline drainage water is a significant problem for irrigated agriculture. One proposal is to recycle drainage water to irrigate salt tolerant crops until the volume has been reduced sufficiently to enable final disposal by evaporation. Part of this concept requires in-situ crop water use from shallow groundwater; and data is needed to quantify the potential use of groundwater by alt...

Effect of Shallow Groundwater Table on the Moisture Depletion Pattern in Crop Root Zone

Different techniques for estimating seasonal water use from soil profile water depletion frequently do not account for flux below the root zone. Shallow water table contribution to supply crop water use may be important in arid and semi-arid regions. Development of predictive root uptake models, under influence of shallow water table makes it possible for planners to incorporate interaction bet...

Clouds form preferentially over native vegetation

The replacement of native vegetation for agriculture leads to significant changes in land surface characteristics, such as albedo, surface roughness and canopy resistance. These land surface changes induce changes in the atmospheric boundary layer. It is shown that in Western Australia, this change in surface characteristics and in particular, the albedo, has reduced the occurrence of convectiv...

Defining an Ecologically Ideal Shallow Groundwater Depth for Regional Sustainable Management: Conceptual Development and Case Study on the Sanjiang Plain, Northeast China

The depth and fluctuation of shallow groundwater influence water supply to land surface vegetation. Knowledge of an ecologically ideal depth range of shallow groundwater for a vegetation ecosystem can be crucial for sustainability of regional water resource management and ecological conservation. In this study, we developed a conceptual model that identifies an upper and a lower boundary of sha...
